Pale pink in color, this is NOT your father's Lambrusco! It is a decidedly dry 'frizzante' or lightly sparkling wine made in the Ancestral Method in which the secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle, ending when the yeast cells deplete the supply of residual sugar. There is no dosage or sugar addition to kick-start the secondary fermentation nor is the wine disgorged to remove any remaining sediment or lees, hence the cloudy appearance of the wine.
Winemaker Alberto Paltrinieri calls this cuvée, 'Radice' which means 'roots' in Italian, in reference to his familial roots as well as the establishment of Lambrusco in his hometown of Sorbara. This is by no means a 'fruity' wine and is more about blood orange citrus, rhubarb and cranberry aromas and flavors with a tangy, dry and pleasantly bitter finish. Whether paired with a charcuterie plate or enjoyed on its own, this is a really cool Lambrusco that is nothing like any we've tried before!
