A Quarterly Golfweek Reds Only Wine Club Selection
The 2019 Baker & Hamilton Cabernet Sauvignon is a new wine offering from the Phillips family, owners of Vine Hill Ranch. In 1849, Bruce Phillip’s great-great grandfather R. M. Hamilton partnered with L.L. Baker to supply tools and provisions to miners and ranchers from a canvas tent in Gold Country. The wine’s label on this Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to the legendary B&H catalogs, showing many different equipment illustrations.
The 2019 growing season in Napa Valley was defined by heavier rainfall and retained soil moisture. The extended milder summer which had very few extreme heat events, and few long foggy mornings allowed winegrowers to produce excellent wines. The mild finish to the growing season has preserved freshness and quality in the fruit and has contributed to make what will surely be a memorable vintage. The source of grapes for this wine is the Vine Hill Ranch vineyard, one of the premier Cabernet Sauvignon producing locations in Napa Valley. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 23 months in 85% new French Oak barrels.
